Board of Directors

Brian Doyle Brian W. Doyle, Chairman – Brian has been a member of the First U.S. board of Directors since 1987. Prior to becoming a board member, he served on the Credit Committee. After receiving Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Civil Engineering, Brian served two years as an officer in the Army, then for the next 33 years as a civilian with the Army Corps of Engineers in Portland, Washington DC, and Sacramento. He advanced to the position of Chief of Engineering Division before his retirement in 2002. In that capacity, he managed a staff of as many as 350 employees, and annual budgets of up to $200 million. His organization had the principal function of providing engineering services for public works and military construction projects in partnership with local and state governments and other Federal agencies. Brian firmly believes in the national credit union philosophy, “not for profit, but for service”.
Richard Cochran Photo Richard (Dick) Cochran, Vice-Chairman – Dick's professional career has been as President and CEO of two Sacramento credit unions. He served in that capacity for twenty years at First U.S. Community Credit Union before retiring in February 2007.  His tenure as CEO included serving as a board member for various credit union support organizations. He earned a MBA from the University of California, Davis. He has served the Sacramento community as a board member of three local non-profit organizations and currently an active USA Track & Field Official.
Rick

Richard Bender, Secretary Rick has served on the Board of Directors since 1993 and the Supervisory Committee the four previous years. First U.S. has been his primary financial institution for over 20 years. Professionally, Rick is a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney’s office. Previously, in private practice, he often represented financial institutions in civil litigation and tax matters. He holds a law degree from Georgetown University and a B.A. from the University of Maryland. He lives in Sacramento with his wife and three children. His goal as a director of First U.S. is to keep it healthy and strong, while offering its members attractive financial services.

Photo Jamie Gomes, Treasurer – Jamie holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the University of California, Davis and Masters of Business Administration from California State University Sacramento. He has been a member of First U.S. for more than 15 years and is a former employee. Professionally, Jamie is an urban land economist working as a Principal with the firm Economic & Planning Systems, Inc. He is also an active member in the Urban Land Institute and National Impact Fee Roundtable. He has served on the First U.S. Supervisory Committee for over a year and is excited about the opportunity to continue serving members as a volunteer on the Board of Directors.
John Anderson John Anderson – John received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical Engineering from Southern University in 1961. He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in Power Resource Planning for 15 years where he became the Branch Chief. In 1989, he transferred to Western Area Power Administration as Assistant Area Manager for Engineering and retired there as Assistant to the Area Manager for Special Projects. Since retirement, John has continued to work as a part-time consultant for the agency and currently volunteers as bookkeeper for the nonprofit Women’s Civic Improvement Club. Having served on the Board for over 40 years, he has seen First U.S. grow from under $4 to over $174 million in assets. Serving as Board Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and Chairman of several committees, he has shown his commitment and support of the credit union philosophy of “people helping people”.
Phil Phillip G. Keith – Phil began his career with the Army Corps of Engineers after serving in the navy and attending college. Before retiring, he was chief of the Multifamily Housing Production Branch with the Federal Housing Administration. Phil joined First U.S. after starting work for the Corps in 1969, and has been involved in volunteer activities since 1975. He served on the Credit Committee as Chairman for several years. He also served on the nominating committee, and has been a voting representative at California Credit Union League annual meetings. He has served on the board of Directors since 1991. Phil eagerly looks forward to continuing his credit union service.
Lee Nancy Lee – Nancy is a business lawyer whose practice focuses on representing for profit and nonprofit organizations in a broad range of transactional matters. She recently joined the Sacramento firm of Murphy Austin Adams Schoenfeld LLP after 25 years with McDonough Holland & Allen PC. A native Sacramentan, Nancy has served on a number of nonprofit boards, both regionally and nationally. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from UC Berkeley, Juris Doctor degree from Hastings College of Law, and a Master of Business Administration degree from UCLA. Nancy has also received several honors and awards through the years. She has been a member of First U.S. since 1983 and has served on the Board of Directors since 2005.
Clarence Parkins Photo Clarence Parkins – Clarence was born and raised in West Virginia. He graduated from Marshall University with a B.A. in Business Administration and a minor in Economics. As a member of the men's basketball team for 4 years, he played in 2 NCAA Basketball Tournaments. He started his business career with Dun & Bradstreet in Miami, Florida as a Credit Reporter. He was named Sales Manager in Jacksonville, Florida in 1968. In 1970 he joined Genuine Parts Company (NAPA) in the Management Training Program. He held positions in GPC in Miami, Cleveland, San Francisco, Fresno, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles. He was General Manager and President of the NAPA Distribution Centers in Fresno, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles. He retired from Genuine Parts Company in 1992 and accepted the position of President of the California Automotive Wholesale Assn. in Sacramento until 1996. Since then he has been an active member of Rotary International. He was President of his club (Rancho Cordova) in 2000-01, and was District Governor of District 5180 in 2007-08. He has received many Rotary awards including The Citation for Meritorious Service, the second highest Rotary Award. He is currently his district's representative to the Rotary Council on legislation. He and his wife Sallie have two grown children and three grandchildren. Clarence is a licensed pilot. His hobbies are running and golf and he has run in 9 marathons, and joins the Board having served as a Board member of Big Valley Federal Credit Union.
<strong>Gary Staker Photo Gary Staker – Gary is a business entrepreneur. He was born in Huntington Park, California, and moved to the Sacramento area as a child. He started his career with Alpha Beta Super Market. From there Gary transitioned to the California Automotive Wholesalers Association, where he headed the insurance division. In 1996 he opened his own insurance business, Automotive Aftermarket Services where he remains today. Gary works with many small business organizations. In addition, Gary performed insurance consulting for the California, San Jose, San Francisco, and Oakland Chambers of Commerce. He was Chairman of the Board of Big Valley Federal Credit Union. Gary is and has been involved in various entrepreneurial enterprises including real estate and restaurateur. He manages and owns several properties, and enjoys the challenge of starting a business from the ground up. Gary has one son and three grandchildren. His hobbies include fishing, hunting and, skiing.

Supervisory Committee

Charles "Chuck" B. Johnson, Jr.

Charles "Chuck" B. Johnson, Jr., Chairman – has been a First U.S. member since 1980 and a member of the Supervisory Committee since 1982. A 38+ year Federal employee, the last 34 with the US Bureau of Reclamation, he is currently the Mid-Pacific Region's Land Resources Manager responsible for providing technical support services associated with irrigation and drainage activities, soil classifications, GIS and remote sensing, realty, recreation, and wildland fire management programs, and other related land use activities. He is a retired US Navy commander. He is active with the local Boy Scouts of America and does volunteer work for the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra.

Dennis B. Cook

Dennis B. Cook – is a founding partner of Cook Brown LLP.  He represents management in all aspects of labor relations and employment law.  He has extensive experience in traditional labor law matters, including contract negotiations, election issues, grievance procedures, representation issues and arbitrations.  Mr. Cook is active in litigating labor matters before the National Labor Relations Board and represents management in federal and state courts in employment litigation, where he has obtained favorable trial and appellate court rulings.  Mr. Cook has authored articles for several trade publications on topics such as drafting job site access rules and the applicability of prevailing wage rules.

Steve Dupre

Steve Dupre, CPA, Advisory Member of the Supervisory Committee – Steve graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1986. Currently, Steve is a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and has been with them since 1992. His assignments include investigating White Collar and Organized Crime, and serving as the Coordinator of Media Operations, Community Outreach, and Recruiting for the Sacramento FBI. Steve has also served as the case agent on five major federal criminal trials involving money laundering.

Joshua Perisho – Josh is a Dentist and the President/Treasurer of Moyneur & Perisho Family Dentistry. He earned his B.S. in Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics, Magna Cum Laude, from UCLA in 2008 and his D.D.S. from the UCLA School of Dentistry in 2012. Josh is driven by a strong desire to serve the community, providing pro-bono dental treatment through Smiles for Kids in Sacramento, and also volunteering with the California Dental Association Dental Health Clinic, Park West Dental Groupís We Serve Day, and Give Kids a Smile. Josh is an active member of the Sacramento District Dental Society, (of which First U.S. has been an active member/vendor since 2005). In his spare time he enjoys snowboarding and spending time with his growing family.
